Men's Shed Newsletter No. 12

20 March 2022

Hello Shedders

We had another very good session last week, with two more new faces – welcome to Bob and Trevor. Even better, as a result of a slight lack of communication, we ended up with bacon rolls AND doughnuts!

The production line for planters really ramped up and finished six (count ‘em) planters for Fordingbridge Town Council, complete with poker-work badges crediting the Shed with the work. The planters were delivered to the Council on the same day. Well done to everyone involved.

As usual there was also lots of chat and messing about with tools. Alan put together his £60 Parkside lathe and allowed people to have a go.

This week, as part of the usual Wednesday session, we will hold the Avon Valley Shed Annual General Meeting. The AGM will start at about 10am on Wednesday, and shouldn’t take very long – there will still be time for the usual shed activities.

Because the Avon Valley Shed is a registered charity (a CIO in fact), we have to have a an AGM. The main purpose is for members to receive the chair’s and treasurer’s reports, and to appoint (or re-appoint) trustees.

Please note that only paid-up members can participate in and vote at the AGM. It’s not too late to join though – forms will be available on Wednesday before the meeting.

AGM Agenda

  • Welcome, introductions.
  • Chairman’s report and matters arising.
  • Treasurer’s report and matters arising.
  • Trustees:
    • Avon Valley Shed needs at least three (and up to ten) trustees.
    • Currently the Trustees are: Gary Knight, Malcolm Connolly, Julie Kalsi, Chris Dennis.
    • One third of the trustees (i.e. one of them) must stand down each year, and can be immediately re-appointed.
    • The members present can appoint more trustees as required.
  • Any other relevant business.
