Men's Shed Newsletter No. 14

10 April 2022

Hello again Shedders

I’ll start with this week, because it’s a bit different.

We have offered to fix a fence at Breamore Primary School, and that will be happening this Wednesday and Thursday. We’ll meet as usual at the church hall on Wednesday at 9:30am, and those who want to can go on to Breamore – I expect people will share transport. Members travelling from northerly directions can go straight to the school car park at 10am you prefer. The usual session will continue in the church hall for the rest of us.

I don’t know what the weather will do, so bring clothes and footwear suitable for working outdoors if you want to be part of this project. There will be scrub clearing and such to do, as well as digging post holes.

On Thursday we’ll continue with the work at the school: we’ll need quite a few people for a short while to lift the whole of the old fence back to vertical all at once. We’ll finalise the timing for that on Wednesday.

Last week was busy. Paul has been helping the Green Gram shop in Roman Quay with their shopfitting. Fordingbridge Town Council discussed our application for a grant to buy tools, but turned us down because of our lack of secure storage. At Hyde Club on Tuesday there was discussion about tools and materials for Breamore School, and the recent donation of a chop saw and some timber.

On Wednesday a good number of people met at the church hall. Alan continued with his fly tying, which is a mysterious art to me. Others refurbished a bench from the grounds of Fordingbridge surgery, replacing some of the timbers, giving it a thorough sanding, painting it, and reinstalling it all in one morning. And we made a hedgehog box for the community allotments.
